The journey Starts here...
This site was created because there was such a lack of educational material out there on the internet, for free, an all in one, comprehensive, easy to use, destination. There are many pet pig registries that have emerged or are emerging, but that was not the direction we wanted to venture. We whole heartedly felt that registries led to more litters, more breeding and possibly more irresponsible marketing to sell these precious animals. Although none of us would be here without breeders and there ARE good, knowledgeable and responsible ones out there... we just can't condone major breeding operations for pet pigs at this time. The need just isn't there, but the need for education is. While many people will continue to buy overpriced piglets from breeders, we will remain steadfast in our mission to further educate them and teach them to enjoy the ride, no matter how big or small your pet pig may end up.
The Dalai Lama once said, "It is necessary to combine knowledge born from study with sincere practice in our daily lives. These two must go together." We genuinely believe and live by this thought. Please join us on our adventure and lets put our education in to action! Now, learn about the creator and what makes her who she is and the animals that have shaped her life!

Although we have an original creator who compiled Pet Pig Education with a specific purpose and goal, our team is ever evolving. We have taken on individuals that assist with our social media platforms and website ideas. What makes our growing team so unique is that they are from ALL over the world! Unlike many websites, Pet Pig Education is evolving to encompass the entire world of pet pigs. By doing this, we expand our range of knowledge and are able to expand on all aspects of pig ownership including world biodiversity. It is very exciting that we have a team compiled of individuals from many different countries!
Jodi Register
Jodi has been an animal enthusiast all her life. As a child, she would walk around the neighborhood looking for hungry or stray animals to care for and take in. Usually her mother would have to tell her that they actually belonged to the neighbors down the street and sadly, she had to give them back. That passion for animals has never wavered, only grown with time.
Even in high school, Jodi's education focused on animal health. She started off in ROP classes focused on agriculture and veterinary medicine. As a senior, she went to the Center for Advanced Research and Technology, a specialty school focused on occupational based learning and technology advancement. There she studied in the Biomedical lab. Jodi got her undergraduate degree at COS and then FSU in Animal Science. At this point, she also obtained a 2 year vet tech license. She then enrolled at Purdue University in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Unfortunately, Jodi's education would be put on hold with the birth of her daughter in 2010 and the start of excessive military moves with her husband who is a 15 years in, F18 pilot, in the Navy. Hopefully in the future, Jodi will be able to pursue her passion for higher education again. Right now, she is focused on running her small farm and raising her young daughters.
Jodi originally got in to pet pigs (Vietnamese Potbellies) after doing a few years of research, because she wanted to try her hand at a successful breeding practice. She had 3 wonderful litters and was able to successfully find amazing homes or farms for every baby produced. Her policy has always been an open door, with emphasizing to her owners about further pet pig education. Not one of her pigs has ever returned. Her biggest priority was always doing an intense amount of research, follow up and questioning her prospective owners to where there was no doubt in her mind, she found the perfect home and family. Her passion for breeding ended a year and half ago when the stark reality hit her, that in our immediate area and even all over our state, we had a major problem with the overabundance of unknowledgeable breeders selling their pigs to the first person to give them the money. They told wild inaccuracies about size projections, which led to massive amounts of pigs being dumped in shelters, rescues and even euthanized. Her heart broke and she couldn't continue with any breeding because of what was unfolding in the pet pig community. Her passion for pigs has never subsided because she no longer breeds, it has only grown, but in an educational based direction. Her mission is to help educate everyone she can that is interested in learning more about pigs, not just pets either. Jodi's passion encompasses commercial swine breeds and husbandry as well.
Jodi has vast experience and knowledge in many areas of animals husbandry but is ALWAYS learning. She has worked for tack stores, pet stores, SPCA's, animal rescues and rehabilitation, horse training facilities, vet offices and even the zoo. She currently owns her own farm in southern Georgia, where she cares for 12 different species of animals (not including cats and dogs). She has worked hands on with many species of animal, domestic and exotic, including large constrictors and poisonous reptiles. She hopes one day to swim with a manatee! Jodi has competed and jumped horses in the Hunter/Jumper discipline, since she was 4 years old. She even trailered her own horses across the country for a military move, with her daughter at one month of age. Although she has a massive soft spot and acquired love for miniature pigs, her first romance was always with equines.
